Associated Press Needs to Write Better Headlines

Associated Press is distributing a story nationwide with this headline:
"APPARENT AGREEMENT REPORTED IN FILIBUSTER FLAP." But when you read the story, the so-called agreement has only been agreed to by Sen. Reid.

Reid's proposed agreement is not even remotely like the sensible plan previously outlined by David Broder. Sen. Biden added all kinds of conditions to Broder's proposal, and then Sen. Reid added a bunch more conditions, and now AP pronounces it a done deal. Go figure. Today, UPI did a much better job than AP:

Never before has the filibuster been used in this manner, to block a vote on the confirmation of nominees who enjoyed the support of a majority of senators. It is this blockage that has created the crisis, not Frist's proposed solution.

On a lighter note, click here to play the filibuster-related game, Name That Speaker.
