CFJ Posts Most Recent Press Releases on Its Homepage

We have posted our two most recent press releases on our homepage. You may have already seen our press release from yesterday (thanks Andrew) on how the Dems and the usual left-wing groups attack almost every Southern white male Christian judicial nominee, including Judge Southwick, with the same smears time after time.
Today, we posted a new press release on the Left's attempt to impose a racial quota on the federal judiciary by demanding that the seat Judge Southwick is currently nominated for be given to an African-American, preferably an African-American who would be considered a "consensus nominee" by Leahy, Schumer, Neas and Aron. Here's an excerpt from that press release:
"Moreover, what Senate Democrats and their allies are demanding here is a racial quota," noted Levey, adding that "quotas have long been rejected by both the courts and - as polls show - Americans of all races. While not legally binding here, Supreme Court precedent on diversity is instructive. It teaches that, while race can be one of multiple selection factors, it's unlawful to limit seats to members of a particular race. The campaign against Judge Southwick is on the wrong side of that line."
"If this exceptionally qualified nominee is defeated in the Senate because of the color of his skin, it's not the special interest groups that are to blame," Levey said. "Blame the senators, because they're the ones who are supposed to be representing all Americans. The Democrats say they're opposed to quotas. They'll have a chance to prove it when the Judiciary Committee votes on Southwick tomorrow."
I asked in a thread downstream if there were any update in the process of replacing Sen. Thomas. I finally found the answer, so for those intereted, Gov. Freudenthal now has until Monday to select between state senator John Barrasso, former U.S. Assistant Attorney General (and former chief of staff for Sen. Thomas) Tom Sansonetti, and former state treasurer Cynthia Lummis.

at least that's the word from the SJC staffers.
for talking with the SJC staffers. If you or anyone else gets details, please post them. I'm anxious to hear what's going on.
Only details right now on the delay of the Southwick vote include:
Initially, there was no quorum present at the beginning of the SJC meeting.
The SJC took a brief recess and then reconvened with a quorum.
The vote was delayed but there is no publicly known reason who requested the delay, or if any specific person made such a request.
So much for open government…
It seems that PFAW is the only group out there with much interest about this, as it is the only website I can find with current news on this issue.

What the heck is going on with conservative organizations not screaming foul over this?
I have personally called and emailed a number of organizations requesting a press release be issued similar to CFJ. This battle only seems to be on the SJC Dem’s radar, and that is just piss poor performance on our part.
I guess we just wait and see what next week brings?
I can't even get a real person on the phone that knows anything at my own Senator's (Cochran) office. Go figure.

Here is an article from the Clarion Ledger...but doesn't give any additional information except that the delay was again requested by the Republicans
I have to believe that there is a deal being worked out behind the scenes regarding Southwick. Of course the Democrats are happy to allow as many delays as the Republicans want. At some point, if a deal is not reached (and as much as I hate to say it), the vote needs to go forward, up or down. Continued delay only puts off any future nominees.

Southwick is not on the agenda for next week.
I agree. The Southwick vote needs to happen - up or down. Continued delay does noone any good. If Dems are against him, Southwick is doomed. Either way, we need to move forward with the remaining nominees.
Also a "no" vote put the Dems on record as having voted down a great judge for no other reason than that Southwick was a white male from Mississippi. It can and should be used as a campaign issue in 2008. The American people need to see the Dems for what they are. These kinds of votes should make it obvious.
As I said a few days ago, it's all inside baseball now. Maybe it always was. And Republican Senators have yet to prove that they're anything more than a softball team playing the Red Sox.
Meanwhile the Senate has its full attention turned to the Destroy America Amnesty Bill and the Destroy the Economy Energy Act. Oh, and also on losing the war in Irag and also losing the War on Terror. That is, the 5% of their time not spent on their all-consuming main occupation: money grubbing and fund raising for the next election. And we get to watch.
Oh, I forgot these Senate efforts: The Terrorist Expanded Rights Act (a.k.a. Habeas Corpus Restoration) and The Secure Terrorist Communications Act.
If the D.C. Circuit panel for the Libby appeal is as "random" as the recent 4th Circuit one on terrorist rights, he'll probably draw Judith Rogers and Tatel.
Quiz: An utter certified disaster occurred this week to the judicial confirmation effort. No, it wasn't Southwick. It was something that didn't happen on Wednesday. Can anyone guess what?

Any word on how the hearing went today? Everyone get voted out?
