Feintstein and Copper Shoes

I just got this wonderful e-mail from Nina May, Chairman of the Rennaisance Women. Nina was responding to Diane Feinstein's discussion of the separation of church and state.

Feinstein misunderstands the TRUE meaning of Separation of Church and State

Since Senator Dianne Feinstein wants to ensure that the chimera of the mythical separation of church and state remain a phantom constitutional reality, she must understand that the analogy she used of the copper shoes in Budapest is a precise example of what happens when you achieve that perfect storm of a state totally separated from the church.

It was not the Jews who were forcing their beliefs on a Fascist nation, it was the other way around. And the division was so profound, that 6 million Jews were murdered, BECAUSE of their religion, not inspite of it. That is precisely the results of a purist view of a government void of all religious influence to the point of enmity between the two factions.

In her questioning, she is suggesting that Judge Roberts should embrace such a draconian position as to say that anyone who expresses a religious view is relegated to a position outside the political and cultural marketplace of ideas, and marginalized with benign and eventual enforced censorship.

It is statements such as this, by Senator Feinstein, that traditionally put a chill on open display of faith as it relates to a person’s political and philosophical beliefs.
