Gore on Bush v. Gore

Former Vice President Al Gore gave a speech today:
Gore recalled the 2000 presidential election, when the Supreme Court in effect deemed Bush the winner over Gore by ending the Florida recount. Gore said he and the country respected the Supreme Court's authority. But had the high court been dominated by judges rammed through the Senate without adequate bipartisan support, Gore said, "then no speech imaginable could have calmed the passions aroused in our country."
Someone might want to mention to Mr. Gore that Clarence Thomas was confirmed by the Senate in 1991 on a 52-48 vote, which was far short of the 60-vote threshold that Gore is now backing. On the other hand, maybe it would be better to not mention that to Mr. Gore, because "then no speech imaginable" might be able to calm his passions.
