Hatch's remarks on the filibuster

Courtesy of Real Clear Politics, here are Senator Hatch's remarks from the floor of the Senate from yesterday concerning the filibuster. Hatch delivered a tremendous speech going over the historical and legal issues framing this debate. He condemns the misleading Washington Post poll which has been discussed here and elsewhere. He also provides an interesting bit of historical perspective by noting the inability of the Senate to filibuster any of FDR's Court picks. Finally, he concludes thusly:

As our current Majority Leader Bill Frist put it a few days ago, I never thought it was a radical thing to ask Senators to vote. That is what we have traditionally done on judicial nominations that reach the floor, and that traditional standard should apply across the board, no matter which party controls the White House and no matter which party controls the Senate.

Great stuff from the Senator.
